LAN Connection ON and OFF

Two days ago, I noticed that my LAN connection says, “Disconnected” and then in just a while it says, “Connected” and then disconnected again. I tried to disconnect the cable on the back of my computer and connect again. I also checked on the Switch/Hub but nothing happened.

Is this a hardware or a software/driver problem? I don’t know how to fix it, so help me please.

There can be many reasons for this. First try to use another port, on your router and see if that can solve this problem. If it doesn't, then try with a new cable and see if the old one is maybe damaged somehow. If even that didn't help, the next thing is to check the cable, which connects your phone line and a router. Also don't forget to check how the router connected in splitter, where your phone line is connected too, and check if it is plugged in to wall socket properly.

Also check your power adapter, which maybe isn't plugged in properly. If that didn't solve the issue, you may have to see your ISP, because the reason for such connection can be damaged a phone line and old wires.

  • Go to start;
  • Control Panel ;

There are possible reasons why your LAN is getting disconnected.

First, it might be a loose wire. In this case try replacing the Ethernet cable.

Second, it might be that the port of the switch/hub your computer is connected to is busted. With this, you can try connecting your computer to a different port.

Third, it might be that the device giving out the IP address (router) is not functioning properly and that could be the reason why your connection is intermittent.

Fourth, it could also be the LAN card of your computer is the problem. You might need as well to update its drivers.

Hi Rhina,

First of all you have to see to it that all physical devices are in function, this include the modem, hub and router or what you are using. The LAN cable should be checked also for its proper functioning in order to work with properly. Then you have to check next is to go control panel and click network connection and try to refresh or renew the adapter connection. Also try to disconnect your adapter and update if possible or else you may refresh. Try to check if the LAN card are need to be change for a new one, possibly this may cause for not functioning well.

Thanks and I hope it helps a lot of your problem

Regards,

Jorge

I'm very lucky to find this thread. My router is also malfunctioning, I'm really glad,  Jatilano. I found out that the problem is because of one of my physical devices.
