My cousin borrowed my IPod shuffle last weekend for his trip. He then gave it back earlier this morning, and when I plugged it into my computer I received an error that, "The iPod “Administrator’s iPod cannot be updated.

The disk could not be read from or written to."

I want my shuffle to work again. Anyone who knows the solution?

The iPod 'Administrator's iPod' cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.

Hi,

I don't know if you can just simply update the software of it.
Probably it would help.

If it is jailbroken probably it is because other things. Ask your cousin for some information. Probably he had used it as an external usb device. I would delete the current software and add a new one to it.

Good luck!

Hi,

There could be many reasons for this error message. Please try one or more of the following solution. I hope it will solve your problem.

1. Please check if you have any damaged music files. This damaged file could be in your iTunes software or in your shuffle. Try to identify that file and delete it. You can later restore it from the backup. Files can be repaired too by repairing the disk.

2. As you said that your cousin borrowed the iPod. Virus or some malware might be the obstacle. Please plug the iPod and before opening iTunes scan you iPod as a disk drive. For instance: Open my computer. Right click on the IPods' icon and scan it from the antivirus in your machine.

3. Last but not the least please try to restore the iPod using the latest version of iTunes. You might lose the data in this process which can be restored if you have any backup available.

4. Damaged disk could be the result of this error. Please visit nearest apple dealer to represent your problem if none of the solutions work.

Regards,

Hi there,

That is really an odd problem you are having there.

I can assure you that your iTunes software is completely okay and doesn't need any tinkering.
However I do believe that the problem lies with your Antivirus/Firewall program.

I'd advise to check the Firewall/Web access options/rules on your security software to allow web access to iTunes.
