When I try to print a file through MS Word or MS Excel, it directs me to the 'Save As' option and it doesn't print. But this do not appear when clicking the print option on any webpage. What should I do with it? The printer is properly installed and I even uninstalled and re-installed MS Office. It can print on any Internet pages but using Office, it won't. How can I resolve it?

It sounds as if your default printer in Windows is set to “Print to File” instead of the printer you are actually trying to print from.  This means that whenever you want to print something, you are actually creating a file with the print information onto a file on your computer’s hard drive. Make sure that your default printer is set to your actual printer.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Devices and Printers.  A page will open up with all your installed printers
  3. Right-click on the printer you are trying to print from
  4. Select “Set as default printer”

The problem could also be that your printer is setup for the wrong port.  This means that it is set up as a print to file port, and not of a comm port.  To change it:

  1. For Windows XP – Click Start>Settings>Printers and Faxes. Right click on your printer and click the Properties setting. Click on the ports tab and make sure it is set to comm port.
  2. For Windows Vista – Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Printers.  Right click on the printer you are trying to print from and select Properties.  Click on the port tab
