Hi,

I have Windows XP 2 service pack. Previously everything is fine with my LAN,now the problem is I am unable to get access of the shared drives and documents on the other systems in my work place, where LAN is active. In my system no Network regarding option is active and even I cant access the Firewall option in my control panel. View Work group computers, My network Places, every icon is not working, but I can access the internet. Also I am unable to Print through the Printers which are used through LAN.

Can I get a proper useful answer for my query please!

Thanks

Regards

Check all the connection of each workstation that you have in your LAN network to see if the shared network is powered up, or its them that has the problem. Use LAN testers to test all of your cables to make sure that everything is up and running. If you are the administrator, you might want to check if all the files are shared properly and that you have all access to this files by right clicking the shared file from its main source, the Properties and then Security Tab. Then make sure that all user and access level is checked.

To view the security tab on XP, go to Folder Options and then View Tab, and uncheck the Simple File Sharing option. It is in the last of the option.

I have gone through your reply,

I checked the properties tab and tried to give the sharing option, then the error follows – "The Shared resource was not created at this time,

The server service is not started" have occurred.

Thank you

I think your problem is that there was something in your computer that was not configured right when it was rebuilt. The fact that the other computer is connected on the same router and is working fine tells me that the issue is not with the router or your internet connection.

The problem could be a lot of things. It can be a bad port on the router. If this is the case, look for the port of the non-working computer and connect it with the one that works fine.

It can also be that the Cat5 cable is defective. If this is the case, use a different or a new cable if you can. Another possibility is that the Network Port could be bad. To resolve this, check the device manager and be ready to reinstall the latest driver. You would know by checking the manufacturer’s website. You can also check if the DHCP service is running on the computer or if it was configured properly based on the manual/instructions after the PC was rebuilt.
