My 64-bit laptop is installed with Windows 98 second edition operating system and Windows installer 3.1 with a Disk space of 280MB(*86).Â
The last time I tried installing Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 which is vital for Windows Operating systems, I got this error message.
I need some guidance on this issue.
Â
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Setup
Â
Error 25015.Failed to install assembly ‘C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll’ because of system error: 0x80131107
I am unable to install .NET Framework 2.0
Problem Explained
Since you have clearly indicated that your laptop is a 64-bit system, running Windows 98 second edition, it is evident that the problem which you facing is related to the hardware-software compatibility.
Â
Windows 98 is a 32-bit operating system so its expecting a 32-bit software to run on it while the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is 64 bit and so is your system.
Â
Even the error which you are experiencing during installation indicates it clearly Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Setup.
Â
Error 25015. Failed to install assembly ‘C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll’ because of system error: 0x80131107

Solution
Â
The solution is that you install some 64 bit compatible operating system like Windows Vista or 7 and install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 64 bit version.
Â
This should solve all your problems.
