Fortunately, there is a way to update Microsoft Security Essentials offline or manually instead of the usual online update. When updating Microsoft Security Essentials manually, you are simply downloading the latest virus and spyware definition update file from Microsoft and then installing the updates on your computer. This will update the virus signature database used by Microsoft Security Essentials.

The offline update is available only for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. If you have any of these operating systems, you need to verify the platform architecture of your operating system whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.
