To configure active directory first you need to install it on your system. Once AD DS role is installed on your system, the next process is to configure it. Steps are given below:

  1. Open the server manager.
  2. Click on the notification icon at the top of server manager. select “Promote this server to a domain controller” link.
  3. Select Add a new forest from the radial options menu, under the Deployment Configuration tab. Insert your root domain name, click Next.
  4. Decide a Domain and Forest Functional level and then provide a password to DSRM.
  5. Select next, if you reviewed the warning.
  6. Click on next, after confirming the NetBIOS.
  7. Specify the required location, click on next.
  8. Take a look at the configuration options and then click on next.
  9. If the systems find everything proper, click on install.
