Hi All, a few days ago I bought a copy of kaspersky and got a pen drive as complimentary gift. Sadly, every time I am trying to access the flash derive, I am getting this “Drive is write Protected” message. I have searched the web and tried a few things but nothing worked out.

·         Changing the value by going to windows registry

·         Tried to format using CMD.

·         By going through windows safe mode.

I will really appreciate any help.

Hi, From what I see, the Thumbdrive bundled with your Kaspersky might have a USB Management Program inside it and from there you can disable the write-protect of the drive. Or you may also try this step:

1) Shutdown your Computer or Laptop

2) Insert the USB Thumb Drive into your laptop or computer

3) Turn on Laptop but press f8 to access the advanced boot options.

4) Choose Safe Mode with CMD

5) Know what drive your USB is (usually its in Drive E, F, G etc)

6) Type C:windowssystem32>E:

7) Then it will become E: (Now type: FORMAT E:) and press enter

8) It will ask you if you really want to format or not Type Y and press enter

9) After it is completely formatted, Try the USB Thumb Drive again.

Hi  Stella,

That's really good that you tried your luck to troubleshoot on your own, at least we know which one doesn't work for you. There are many solutions for this kind of problem. One of those that I can suggest is to use a formatting tool or utility. The one that I recommend is Apacer Formatting Utility.

Since it is formatted, you need to make sure that everything is backed up.
Download the utility from this link:

Unzip the folder, then double-click on the START.BAT file. You just need to wait until the formatting finishes or if the LED light on the drive stops blinking.

Now remove the pen-drive and plug it back into your computer.

Now go back to the CMD. In the command prompt, type CHKDSK [USB-drive-letter]: /F, and you are done!
