How to retrieve data from dropped and broken hard drive?

Hello,

A client of mine decided to play IT guy, and change out his own hard drive. After removing the hard drive from the computer, he dropped the hard drive on his cement floor and break the casing of the drive. He quickly feel back into his role of boss, and demanded it fixed, and have the data retrieved from the drive. I hooked the drive up, but it doesn't read any longer.  In fact, it doesn't show up in POST.

Is there a safe way to remove the platters and install them into another drive to retrieve the data?

Or do I have to go to the boss and say this is not possible?

Thanks again

Hi there,

First try to connect HDD with a running system. Try to connect that HDD with windows XP environment because I am giving some options based on windows XP.

Now you just need to download this software from https://filehippo.com/. Name is “Recover may files”. It’s free just downloaded this and then install. You can also collect it from other source.

In here you can recover your data. If you want to recover lost data then 2nd option “Complete file search “and click next. Now select HDD then select all category and click on start. It will take long time (based on your HDD capacity). Then you can collect your lost files. This process is safe.
