Hy,
Hard disk partition mainly depends with the memory size of it. You can create many partition in one hard disk. Basically most of the computer user choose 3-5 partition in one hard disk. Although it depends on hard disk memory size. Your computer’s hard disk size is 320 GB, so i recommend you to make 3 or 4 partition for your computer. It may noted that computer speed depends with partition too. So i suggest you to make only 3 partitions for your computer. You will get maximum performance if you use less partition. So official computer’s is best with two partition. And personal computer should have 3 or more partitions.. Hope your confusion is now clear.

Thanks

You can create 24 partition in 1 hark disk i mean 24 letters of the alphabet( Alphabet A, B Default located for floppy disk) and the individual sizes of the separate partitions on the single hard drive. Too small in size and it's useless for anything. Typically though, a 100 GB drive could be separated into 2-3 partitions easily.

If you want to know how many partitions you can create on your 320 GB hard drive that would depend on the file system you are using. If your operating system is Microsoft Windows XP or newer, you are most likely be using the NTFS file system since it is the default file system for these operating systems.

The NTFS file system supports a maximum of 256 TB per partition and you can create this size if your cluster size is set to 65536 bytes. If you’ve formatted your hard drive with NTFS file system the normal way, you would probably be using the default cluster size which is 4096 bytes and with this you can create a partition as big as 16 TB.

That means your 320 GB hard drive is too small to create the biggest partition supported by NTFS. That would also mean you can create as many partitions as you like without hitting the limit for the maximum partition size. The maximum partition size is determined by the number of sectors. 1 sector is equal to 512 bytes and the smallest cluster size is 512 bytes.

If you are using the smallest cluster size, 512 bytes, the maximum partition size you can create with NTFS is only 2 TB.
