Hi all,

I tried installing Microsoft Office 2003 in my highly configured Dell laptop. However, a message keeps on coming out of my screen stating “Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source.” Does anybody know how I could solve this problem? A response would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Kara,

This results if you have some registry subkey missing. To resolve this issue, you can try to install MDAC 2.8 first. To download MDAC 2.8, you can go to this link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/sql-data-developer. You need to restart your computer afterwards.

Another method you can try is to Reset the Registry subkey by using MDAC.inf. To do that, please follow the steps below:

·         Click on Start > Run > type pathinf, path is where your windows folder is located then click on Ok.

·         On Tools > Folder Options > click on View

·         On Advanced Settings > Show hidden files and folders > Ok.

·         Right click on MDAC.inf > Install

·         Insert your windows cd if you are prompted to do so.

·         Find I386 on your hard disk then click ok.

·         Restart computer

Hi Kara Gio,

I would like to tell you that this error occur when there is a database program that you are installing to the computer . For your case you are trying to install Ms Access.

The cause being missing registry

The following are the methods that you may use to solve this

You install MDAC 2.8 which you can be able to get from MSDN website

However if you are using windows xp you just need to install service pack 2(SP2) and you need not look for MDAC 2.8

You may also reset registry by running mdac.inf file .

The program may prompt windows cd to be able to get new file.

You may also import the registry from the computer in the net work.

Ensure when you get registry from another computer they have the same operating system

Dear Kara Gio,

Thanks for asking. Dear this error has two reasons behind it.

  1. Your operating system is not supported.
  2. Office 2003 source is not good or it is corrupted.

Now please see the steps to prevent this error in future.

First keep in mind that Microsoft Office 2003 supports operating system service pack two. In manipulated operating systems, office 2003 will not run.

Please check that you have installed windows XP Service pack 2 or any other edition like crystal edition or gold edition.

The other thing that you have to check is this. Is your Microsoft Office source is OK?

Try to get a new CD of office 2003 and try to install it. I hope you got your answer.

Thanks
