When you type something on the cell it will cross the other cells.

However, If you want to have it in a single cell please follow the below steps.

First type the sentence or paragraph in a single cell that you want. (E.g.: we assume the cell is B3).

Point to note: please do not drag any cell before and after type the sentence or paragraph.

Then select the cell that you typed and go to the Home tab, alignment section and click on the “Wrap text” option.

Then the answer you expected will be displayed as shown in the below picture.

What you need is a word wrap.

To do that, write the sentence that you want to see inside the cell.

Then follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the cell which contains the sentence.

2. Look for the “Format Cells…”

3. When you see the new window, select on the “Alignment” tab.

4. Look for “Text control under “Alignment” tab.

5. Click the check box which says “Wrap text”. And there you have it, an entire sentence in a single cell.

Hope this helps.

Hi Beeky Kaitlyn,

To answer to your question of how to display a long sentence in a single cell, you can wrap text into a cell. There are two ways to go about this,

One, warp text in cells with Wrap Text Command and Two, Wrap Text with adding carriage or hard returns in cells.

1. Wrap text in cells with wrap command.

Microsoft Excel XP 2003/2002.

Select the cell that contains long sentence.

  • Choose Format > Cells from the menu.
  • Choose the Alignment tab.
  • Click Wrap Text.
  • Click OK. The text wraps.

Microsoft Excel 2007/2010.

Use the steps for Excel 2003/2002 or use the following:

  • Firstly of all select the cells that you want to wrap text in them;
  • Then click the Wrap Text in Alignment group under the Home tab.

 2. Wrap text by adding carriage or hard return in cells.

When you want to wrap the long sentence manually at a specific position, you need to add carriage return or hard return manually in cells.

The steps involve,

  • Double clicking the cell you will work with, and get to edit it.
  • Put the cursor at the specific position that you want the long sentence wrapped.
  • Press the ALT key and Enter keys together.

These steps will wrap the long sentence at the specific cell you choose.
