Before they can have full network access, I would like to be certain that network clients are updated. The recent windows updates should be installed, Windows firewall is enabled and other security features. Where should I start checking?

How to Check Status of Windows Updates in Network Clients

Apart from windows firewall, the other important feature that you will need to make sure that it is enabled on your computer is the antivirus software. The antivirus will protect the data that will be used by the users from being corrupt by viruses and most importantly in that case where they are working in a networked environment. It is easy for the files to be infected as they are transferred from one computer to another on the network. Some of the best antivirus you might consider installing are AVG, Bitdefender and Kaspersky. Note that you can only install one of them, and make sure that you keep it updated all the time.

As for the firewall, you will need to make sure that it is ON, and you will check that by going to the security center in the control panel.
