How Can I Simplify Data Back-Up Between 2 PCs?

Is there a more efficient way of backing up data without having to undergo the tedious process of transferring the data to my external HD then to one computer then to another computer?  Is there a way to link the two computers so that data transfer is easier?  One PC has WinXP and the other has Win Vista.  Please help because I have limited knowledge on data transfer.

For sure there is an easier and direct way to transfer data between two computers without having to use an external hard drive. All you will need to have is a network cable to connect the two computers together.

Once you have them connected, on one computer you will do the following:

  • Click on the network identity button in the task bar, and then click open network and sharing center.
  • Next click on change adapter settings, and then choose local area connection.
  • Click on IPv4, and for the IP address allocate: 192.168.0.1, and then for the subnet mask allocate: 255.255.255.0
• Save the changes and go back to network and sharing center and click change advanced sharing options.
  • Make sure that network discovery is ON, folder sharing is ON, password protection if OFF and save the changes.

Repeat the same procedure for the other computer but then use the IP address as 192.168.0.2. You can now transfer files between public folders.
