I have an additional Gmail account. I want to secure this. I have heard about 2 step verification of Gmail,can anyone tell me how it works?

Hi Maxi,

Yes, that is true. Gmail has a two step verification option. This will help to protect your account. If you active this option, you will get a verification message every time you log in to your Gmail account. Follow the steps given below to active this option:

1) Log in to your Gmail account.

2) Go to 'settings' page. You will find four options there.

3) Select 'Using 2-step verification'. The process will start now. You have to give your phone number. Then follow the instructions.

4) Create 10 codes for extra security.

How can I secure my Gmail account?

The two step verification process is a strong deterrent against Unauthorized access or other types of attacks against your Gmail account. Basically, how this works is that you need to provide Google your phone number so they can send you your verification code. Now, every time you login, you'll have to provide this verification code from Google. That way, you will have an extra layer of protection. 

Aside from this, there are a number of other pointers to secure your account:

1. Use strong passwords.

2. Use HTTPS to strongly encrypt logins.

3. Change your passwords in irregular intervals.

4. Do not share your password.

5. Never use the same password on all your accounts.
