I don't know building software but I want to learn about it.

To make a good software or a program of your own, you can use certain programming languages like C++.
Depending on your level of expertise, or when starting with smaller applications, then it's always a better bet, to try Visual Basic. It is a much easier language to start with. Self-study in fact calls for self discipline. Firstly, you need to get a good personal computer with all the required languages software programs installed. There are lots of free tutorials out there on net so you can find any tutorial that suits your need, but if you plan to add this skill to your resume then you are wasting time.
You can also read from free e-books or download them for free. Due to technology advancement many websites are today offering free e-books and tutorials and you can take advantage of this.
You must need to dedicate your time in studying and doing practice on projects starting from small to complex. Make sure you understand the software programming concepts, such as Object-Oriented programming, stacks, priority queues, maps, arrays, and recursive methods are just a very few of the many concepts and constructs that you will have to learn in yourself study. The two programming languages I recommend are Java and C++.
