Hi!

I am using Windows 7 in my desktop computer. My CPU is core 2 duo 2.2 GHz with 2 GB of RAM. From a long time I am facing several problems caused by unwanted malware/ virus/ spyware. My computer became slower and slower. It takes a long time to start and shut down. Sometimes it gets stuck with a program and shows a blue screen.

I am not using any Antivirus or internet security. What can I do to fix my problem? Should I use internet security and what should I buy for this? There are different software's in our local market. Such as Kaspersky, Norton and NOD32. Please consider my problem and give a solution.

Dear Shoyeb,

  • Recently, I saw your problem. After using many days, naturally your computer gets slow. This is not always for the virus related problem. There are some other reasons. Temporary files can slow down your computer. Please clean those files. To do this,
  • Click on start menu>>>> go to All Program>>>>Accessories>>>>System Tools>>>>Disk Clean Up
  • Clean up window will be opened. Select the drive that you want to clean. Hit enter. A list of temporary and other unnecessary file will be shown. Delete all files. 
  • Again click on start menu>>>> go to All Program>>>>Accessories>>>>System Tools>>>>Disk Defragment
  • Select a drive and defragment it. You should apply defragment to all drives. Hope your computer will show better performance than previous.

Hello!

First thing to consider is to perform a check disk to your computer. There is already bad sectors or unreadable portions of your drive. These errors will dramatically reduce the overall performance of your computer. Check disk will search for potential errors and recover lost file and locking those unreadable portions of the hard disk so it cannot be filled with data in the future. To do a check disk, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Right click on the drive you wanted to check for example drive C:.
  3. Select properties
  4. On the properties, select Tools
  5. Look for an error checking and click check now.
  6. A dialog box will appear that contain 2 check boxes. You can select any of the 2 or both then click start.
  7. A message box will appear that you cannot perform the action unless the computer is restarted.
  8. Restart the computer.

When your computer is being restarted and is about to load the operating system it will first proceed to check disk in a blue screen environment. You can still cancel the check disk by pressing escape button on your keyboard but it is strongly recommended to continue the scan in order to fix those errors. Check disk requires time, so please be patient. After all the scan is complete it will automatically proceed to windows.

The answer on the second part of your problem is Yes! You need to have an internet security or a Antivirus program installed since you are connected to the internet. Any Antivirus program will do as long as it is updated regularly. There could be a infection of a virus which significantly reduces the system performance of your machine. No matter how high the specs are in your compute,r when it is infected by malicious programs or virus it will be slowed because the infection will eat a lot of the systems resources thus hindering your performance rapidly.

That is really not good. If you use a computer, you should always have an antivirus running. Even if you don’t go surfing on the internet, you should have an antivirus because even if you don’t need to install programs now, there will come a time that you will need to install an application.

Every application you install on your computer should be checked and analyzed by an antivirus program. If you think your computer is already infected with a virus, download Sophos Virus Removal Tool. This tool is designed to remove those hard to detect viruses that hide cleverly on your system and evade detection. For users with antivirus on their computer, you don’t need to uninstall it.

This tool works alongside any antivirus program you may have. It is also best used on computers that are already infected with a virus. Once it is installed, start scanning your computer. Once a virus is detected, remove it then repeat the scan until it no longer detects a virus. One thing though, this tool is not an antivirus. It will not protect your computer from getting infected.

It doesn’t offer real-time protection like all antivirus programs provide. It is just a tool designed to remove malware.
