Hi everyone. I am using Samsung Note 2 and yesterday it went for an automatic update online. After that it has been behaving abnormally for no apparent reasons. All my applications are crashing; the camera is not working properly. The device gets stuck very often for no reasons. I cannot view videos and listen to music anymore. Is it possible for me to downgrade my device and use it in previous version? Please Help! Thank You!

Your phone might not be a goner (hard-bricked), but your data on the phone (incl. pictures, messages, contacts etc.) might be unrecoverable if you haven’t backed them up in a while.

You can try:

  1. Install a rooted custom ROM (custom version of Android incl. Android 4.4.4 which is higher than the official update) Click here to be directed to the website for the ROM

After the installation, Flash it with Odin.  Click here to be directed to the website for downloading Odin

  1. Re-install the version of Android (from Samsung) for your phone model using Kies.  You can also get it from this website

  1. Try to get into recovery mode and reset your phone to the factory settings – as below
  • Power off the device and remove the battery.  Wait for at least 30 seconds before you put the battery back in
  • Enter recovery mode by holding down the Power, Home and Volume down keys at the same time.  Once your phone enters recovery mode, release the buttons
  • Perform a factory reset – This will wipe all the data on your phone!!  Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset option.
  • You can also select Wipe Cache Partition
  • Reboot – In the main menu of recovery mode, choose “Reboot System Now”
