One of my friends informed me that Google and Amazon Web Services AWS are planning to power themselves with 100 percent renewable energy. Is it true? If yes, then this would be the first data center to do so on day one. Can anyone throw some light on this please?

I guess it is not only Amazon that made this pledge to use renewable energy. Aside from Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook have already made their pledges to use one hundred percent [100%] renewable energy. But after these 3 made their pledges for renewable energy, Amazon just kept silent and didn’t follow immediately.

For the past several years, Apple, Google, and Facebook made their promise to use renewable energy to power up their online data centers and machines. But finally, the oath to use one hundred percent renewable energy was announced with a post they made to Amazon Web Services [AWS], the cloud computing division of Amazon.

The post says in quotes “long-term commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy usage for our global infrastructure footprint”. For those who do not know, Amazon is the biggest cloud computing company in the globe that provides services where computing power can be leased by business and developers.
