Hello all,

I tried to upgrade the garmin mobile PC software with the new map data using garmin map updater, but I was met with an error.

The screenshot of the error is as follows:

An unexpected error has occurred and the program must close. If you continue to experience this, please contact Garmin customer support.

The error says:

Can anyone please tell me how to solve this problem?

I am stuck and can't find a solution.

Try to follow these steps, maybe it may help you.

  1. In your Windows Task Manager, do an End process on the GarminMapUpdater.exe and GarminMapUpdater_2.6.11.exe. After that, Bootstrapper.exe would stop on its own.
  2. Close browser window and open a new one.
  3. Log in to my.garmin.com and restart map update process.You will receive a message now**
  4. Choose Install to device only and uncheck box saying Leave installation files on my computer. It may cause the map file downloaded which takes 5 hours.

If you have a problem upgrading your program, try downloading the latest update. Download Garmin Mobile PC 5.00.70. This seems to be the latest version as of February 19, 2010. Before downloading and installing the update, make sure you have a previous version of Garmin Mobile PC installed on your computer. You cannot install this update if you don’t have an existing installation of Garmin Mobile PC.

This download is intended to upgrade a previous version and can’t be used as a new version. This update supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. To verify if the update was successful, in Garmin Mobile PC, go to “Settings” and select “About”. Verify that the version is 5.00.70.
