I am having update issues from “internal error” or iOS 5 Error 3200.

Many people get this error when updating to IOS 5. Error 3200 is due to the congested Apple servers. There are a number of people trying to update or backup just like you. What you need to do is try to do things manually to avoid clogging up the servers.

You could try manually updating your device by simply downloading the IPSW for your device. Here's a link: 

Navigate through the choices and find an update specifically for your device. When download is finished, press SHIFT+UPDATE on iTunes and browse through your downloaded firmware. Wait for the update to complete and there you have it.

If you have an iOS 5 iPhone and updating it is giving you the “error 3200” message, there is a workaround but it may not offer a fix for everyone because you may still run into authentication errors while Apple’s servers are getting hammered with downloads. The workaround will only speed up your downloading of the IPSW file but may not offer a permanent fix.

The workaround is to simply download the iOS 5 IPSW or iPhoneSoftware for your device directly from Apple instead of getting it from iTunes. The IPSW contains the operating system or firmware for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch. Here are the IPSW files for different iOS 5 devices:

Once you’ve downloaded the IPSW file specific for your device, go to Download iTunes and download the latest version. Once iTunes is updated to the latest, launch iTunes and connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. Select your device in iTunes then press and hold the Option key then click “Check for Update.”

On the window that will pop up, navigate to the IPSW file you downloaded, select it, and then click “Open”. Your device should begin updating after this. On the other hand, if you still receive “error 3200,” just be patient and try updating again after a couple of hours.
