Hello,

I’ve been getting the error message "Failed to Save Document" when using Snagit. It happens when the Editor tries to open up after I have taken a screenshot.

How can I get Snagit to work again?

Hell dear !

I think that I have seen this error caused by antivirus and spyware programs conflicting with Snagit.  The most common ones that has been reported are:

Kaspersky Antivirus

BitDefender 2012

If possible, add "snagit32.exe", "snagpriv.exe" and "snagiteditor.exe" as whitelist exceptions to the security software.  If you cannot add exceptions, we recommend uninstalling that specific security software.  In the case of BitDefender, you may need to roll back to version 2011.

Good luck

Hello Renato,

"Failed to Save Document" when using Snagit error occurs when you are installing Kaspersky Antivirus or BitDefender 2012. It is because the both mentioned applications are conflicting with Snagit.

In order to solve this problem, try to follow these steps:

1) First, go to My Security Zone

2) Next, click Application Security

3) Then, look for Snagit process

4) Then, go to Exclusions

5) Tick all

6) The last thing is, just click OK

Then try to capture again, if the error still showing again, I suggest that it is needed to rollback your BitDefender 2012 to BitDefender 2011.

If you receive the message “Failed to save document” when using Snagit, first, check that you are using the latest version. The error normally appears when you are still using the old version. To download the latest, go to TechSmith Previous Release Download Locations. Here, under “Select the product you wish to download”, select “Snagit (Mac)” for OS X users or “Snagit (Windows)” for Windows users.

Under “Select the version”, select the latest or current version then click “Download” on the right. See if this works. If this doesn’t work, try disabling your antivirus or internet security temporarily then see if it works. If Snagit works after disabling the antivirus, add the following files to the exclusions list of your antivirus:

  • Snagit32.exe
  • SnagPriv.exe
  • SnagitEditor.exe

These files are located in the installation folder of Snagit. Open your antivirus then go to “Settings”. Look for “Exclusions” or something similar then add the files. This should fix the problem.
