Hi,

I have a HP server, which I have windows 2003 R2 installed. After planning the cluster deployment strategy, correct deployment of that cluster ensures high availability of the servers that run Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. I want to fully understand how to deploy Exchange Server 2003 in a cluster.

The command I am using is C:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange ServerBin>eseutil /d C:Program FilesExchange serverMailboxFirst Storage GroupMailbox Database.edb. This is the default settings under which I used to install. But then I get the following error message; 

VCS Error

The Exchange database C:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange

ServerMailboxFirst Storage GroupMailbox Database.edb is on

the local drive of the system. You must move the database to a

shared storage before configuring the service group.

I want to access the mailbox database and perhaps be able to drag and drop the DB from the directory to another location, but I keep getting the above mentioned error. Please any who know how to go about this, please?

Hi,

This happens when the Exchange database is in the local drive of the system (C:), it needs to be moved to shared storage. You need to:

  • Run the Exchange Server 2003 Setup Wizard first.
  • On the Exchange Server Configuration page, left side, make sure that there is a check mark on Prerequisites, Group Selection, System Selection and the arrow should be on Databases.
 
Note: Make sure that the settings are correct. Example: 
 
  • Exchange Virtual Server: VS-740E-1.
  • Registry Replication Path:F:\VCSPrivateRegRepExch.
  • Transaction Log Path: F:\VCSPrivateRegRepExchMicrosoftExchange ServerMailboxFirst Storage Group.
  • Ex change Database Path: C:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange ServerMailboxFirst Storage Group.
  • Next.
  • The Exchange Server 2003 Setup Wizard will help you in moving the database from the local drive to the share location that you choose.
  • Exchange Server configuration wizard will run successfully and complete the Exchange service group creation.
