I use Intel XP SP2 computer with Pentium4 processor 2.4 GHz.

Now, yesterday when I Installing Exchange 2003 SP2 management tools on an Exchange 2003 SP2 mailbox server- the following error was experienced.

Error code: “Setup failed while installing sub-components Exchange System Management Snap-ins with error code 0xC0070002 (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description).

You may cancel the installation or try the failed setup again.”

What can I do to fix this problem?

Reasons for the error above: There are registry subkey is missing in the Windows registry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesREORGPerformance” or either Exchmem.dll is missing or there is a version mismatch of the same file in the following locations:

<Drive letter>:program filesexchsrvrbin

<Drive Letter>:program filesmicrosoft integration microsoft

To fix the problem: You may check the window registry subkey. If not present, export it from any other exchange server or Exchange cluster node or send it from your test box where this key is present. After which, , import the registry subkey into the exchange server where you have the issue, or create one with the following sub components. Please make sure that you have same version of exchmem.dll present in both of the following locations on the affected server:

<Drive letter>:program filesexchsrvrbin

<Drive Letter>:program filesmicrosoft integration microsoft

Lastly, restart the Exchange server and then apply the exchange 2003 service pack again.

You may also want to try this option.

You can reinstall Exchange 2003 with management tools, just click yes whenever you are being prompted to replace any SP2 files, reinstall Exchange 2003 SP2 with SP2 management tools and also reinstall SP2 security updates.
