I have just turned on my PC. Then I opened WORD in XP an error message showed up.

"Microsoft Word can't display the template used in this document. Microsoft Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

It isn’t displaying the list of recently opened documents on the side. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Hallo Hall,

It seems like a problem may have occurred when you were installing the Microsoft office products. In order to resolve the issue, I will suggest the following workarounds:

  • Uninstall Microsoft office and then try doing a complete reinstallation of it.
  • You can as well try updating Microsoft office and see if that will resolve the issue.
