Error when updating World of War Craft using its update launcher

I am trying to update World of War Craft using its update launcher. It tried to start the update but after a while the process stops and gives an error "Launcher cannot obtain patching information. Check your network connection."

I have done several things to try to resolve the problem on my own. I deleted launcher.exe and executed repair for it. However, when using repair, it does nothing but consume 99% of CPU usage even after leaving that for 4 hours. I also deleted launcher.wtf and manually installed again the files WoW.mfil along with Wow.tfil. I also closed all of the AV applications that are currently running on the machine. I have also disabled the settings in Internet Explorer to automatically detect settings in LAN.

Error:

Launcher cannot obtain patching information.

Please check your Internet configuration.

The Internet is working so the issue is not the connection at all. The issue may be with the update manager of World of War craft itself that I am not familiar with. Any help from fellow gamers would be great!

Did you try at contacting the forums? All that you need to do is to contact the site of update. You shall be able to manually download the updates. Install them in your machine. The update launcher will not be required. If it is still required, then the launcher may be searching for the connectivity before you had the connection built. Try these. Install the latest internet explorer. Then restart your machine. Connect to the network using the settings you use, then you then open the launcher and try update. Open anew browser and there you type the site from where the launcher derives its data. If the browser opens then it is problem with the launcher.

Thanks.

Since you are playing World of Warcraft, the latest patch is now available. View the notes about the patch in World of Warcraft Patch 7.2. Also, since you are having difficulties in patching the game, try manually patching the Agent instead of patching the game using the game launcher. To patch the Agent manually, download the Agent Standalone Files.

Once downloaded, close any running Blizzard game and launcher and wait at least 30 seconds. Or simply restart your computer and don’t open anything. Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to bring up the Task Manager. In the “Processes” tab, make sure “Agent.exe” is not running. If you see it, select it then press DELETE on your keyboard to kill it.

Select “Yes” to confirm. Unpack or extract the ZIP file you downloaded and copy its files to the following locations:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net – for Windows XP
  • C:\ProgramData\Battle.net – for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10

If you can’t locate the path, you probably need to show hidden files and folders. In Windows Explorer, click “Tools” then “Folder Options”. Select “View” tab then scroll down and select “Show hidden files and folders” then click “OK”. When copying, confirm you want to overwrite and replace files. After this, start the game launcher again and try to patch normally. See if this works.
