When I am trying to lock my PC with Ubuntu 11.10, I pressed Ctrl+Alt+L but when I pressed it today, I received “Couldn't execute command: gnome-screensaver-command –lock Verify that this is a valid command” error. Any ideas?

Error on locking Ubuntu 11.10 PC

After I play some time in Linux i observed that a couple of things didn't work, whenever i click the power button on right of the application Indicator Bar, my Lock Screen option is not working at all Trying on the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+L) brings me to much more deep meaning packed error message:

Couldn't execute command: gnome-screensaver-command –lock.
Verify that this is a valid command.

As always best way to solve this was RTFM. If you enter the command:

  • man xscreensaver

You will get a well explanation of how to setup xscreensaver including all details to get rid of that previous error. That solves your problem.
