Error encountered while opening a program via Shortcut

Dear Experts,

I created a shortcut for Cybergate software on my Win Vista desktop and got this error when I tried to launch it.

C:UsersImLEETDesktopJesseProgramsHackStuffCyberGate v1.07.5.exe

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I tried recreating the shortcut again but got the same error message.

I then used the Administrator rights but still to no avail of using it.

Please help, I didn’t know what to do next.

  • Check if you are logged in as ImLEET
  • Also, right click the shortcut icon & check for the 'Target path' in the properties window. The target path should be within quotes like the below example:
  • C:UsersImLEETDesktopJesseProgramsHackStuffCyberGate v1.07.5.exe"
  • You can also try clicking 'Open file location' to check if the shortcut is referring to the actual file

Hello Risnav,

Are you able to open the program itself if you open directly without using the shortcut? Just check that because the problem may not be with the shortcut but the application itself, it could be corrupt or having a problem with its registries.

In case the application opens without using the shortcut, then you should try deleting the shortcut and the creating it a fresh and see if it will open this time round. You should also check the account you are logged in with. Maybe that program requires that you must be logged as the administrator of that computer to open it.

Hope this helps.
