Error comes with OpenOffice after the installation of latest Version of Java

Hello,

I always use OpenOffice to work on some documents because this software is easy and convenient to use. Most importantly, it is free. It runs properly. However, after the latest version of Java is downloaded and installed, I find that some errors continue to appear. I try to disable Java and an error message appears. The message says that some functions in OpenOffice would be missing if I disable Java. Please find below screenshot of the message for your reference.

I try to un-install Java and re-install it again. And the error message continues to appear. Could any expert explain me the error and how to resolve this?

Thank you very much.

Some functionality within OpenOfice.org 1.1.5 will be missing if Java support is disabled.

Hello,

Generally when we install Java on PC Java Virtual Machine (JVM) works on your system. This kind of software integrates other software data installed in your system. OpenOffice needs Java for database and help systems. You can install Java by your distro's package manager.

Thanks, have a nice time.

Hi there,

Java Runtime Environment is required for complete OpenOffice functionality and there's not much you can do about that. If you are fine with losing some functions, like working with database tables, accessibility integration or some wizards you can leave the Java disabled as all the basic things in OpenOffice will work.

To make everything work again you should clean your old Java installations, leave only the newest version and then enable the Java in the OpenOffice again.

You can remove the old installations manually via Add/Remove programs feature in your system, or you can use third party tool to do that.

Add or remove Program Java Update

There is a simple utility called JavaRa that is free to download and will give you the option to automatically remove all older Java versions.

Remove Older versions Java

Once you've removed the old Java, restart your computer, enable Java in the OpenOffice and everything should work.
