Hi,

At the time I open windows update it shows me that update KB973688 and KB954430 are failing to get installed.

These are not shown in the control panel as installed updates on programs as they will not get deleted and reinstallation is not also possible because in the 1st lay they are never installed. Windows Update shows that’s error code 643.

I have tried to update windows by manual ways but after clicking run I got this message which is: "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable."

I got totally new Sony Vaio and Windows 7, 64 bit and I don’t know how to solve this. Please help me out to solve it.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation

Hello Tamarajparnell, I have read your query.

The reason you are encountering this error is because MSI software update registration and or .NET installations have become corrupted.

So to rectify this problem please follow:

  • Try fixing MSI software update registration by using Microsoft Fix it. You can download Microsoft Fix it from this link. After download follow the steps in the Fix it wizard. After the fix, you should be able to update.
  • Try repairing .NET Framework. To do so, first of all close all your applications which you are running. Open May Computer and click on Uninstall or Change a Program and open Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. There will be an option for repairing your .NET Framework 4 Client Profile along with Uninstall. Don’t uninstall, instead select the repair option. After repair is finished you will be prompted for system reboot. After restart you should able to update. You can also use Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool, which can be downloaded from here

Hope it helped.
