Error Code 19: Could Not Access DVD ROM

I recently installed Windows 7 on my Dell laptop. Since then I keep getting errors on my DVD ROM. It says on the error “Code 19: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.” I tried reinstalling some of the drivers but still didn’t manage to fix the error. I also tried browsing the net but the only solutions I’ve found are for Windows Vista and XP only. I’m having doubts if these solutions will work on Windows 7. I need everyone’s opinion regarding this matter. Please help me.

Hello,

When some hardware goes to have software from OS, it has to register to OS. Your problem may for hardware or with the OS. So two solutions there are

1.      Get support from DELL http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/4

2.      Repair your OS

Repair OS:

1.      Press Start and search for “cmd”

2.      Right click on that and select Run as Administrator

3.      Type a command: sfc /scannow

4.      After finishing this job write this command : findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt

5.      This command creates a .txt file on your desktop named sfcdetails.txt.

6.      Now check this file (containing logs of repair)

7.      Get error message from that text and take further step.

Hope it will work.

Hi Isabel,

There must be a detection on registry problem that is why you got that error. That kind of error only occurs if more than one services for a device or if the driver name can't be obtained and there is a failure in opening service registry entry. You can try the following steps to be able to solve your problem:

  1. Click Uninstall
  2. Hit scan for hardware changes to be able to load a usable driver
  3. Follow the procedure in this link (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929461/the-cd-drive-or-the-dvd-drive-does-not-work-as-expected-on-a-computer)f you are using a CD or DVD
  4. Restart your computer in safe mode
  5. Choose last known good configuration

I hope it might help. Good luck.

Thank you very much Brooke Kstri. I followed your steps and several errors were found. I was not really familiar with solving these kinds of problem so since my Dell laptop is under warranty, they helped me repair my laptop. I brought my cd of Windows OS and they did the system repair using the CD of my Windows OS. Thanks!
