I have a Windows 7, 64-bit machine, and I use Windows Live Mail, Version 2011. Recently I am not able to send or receive any message from the Rogers account, and I get this error message along with the code, 0x800ccc0f. Can anyone suggest me ways on how to resolve this issue?

To solve this issue, reconfigure your account and make sure that the settings you have put are the ones that were working fine before and it is correct.

To isolate the issue, try disabling your security software because these kinds of error can occur due to Firewall issues.

Since you are using a Rogers account, go to Tools/Accounts, and select properties. Under the advanced category, set the timer value from 2 minutes to 4 minutes or more. If you do this, you will be able to receive emails.

You can also try going to Windows mail, click on Tools, then on Options, then on Send. Under Mail Sending Format, change HTML to plain text. Click on OK and Apply.

The full error reads, “Unable to send or receive messages for the [your account name]. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.” If you receive error code “0x800ccc0f” in Windows Live Mail, first to try is change the ports.

In Windows Live Mail, make sure SSL is checked then try changing the port number to 995 for the incoming server. For the outgoing mail server, try setting it to port 465 then enable SSL as well. If this doesn’t work, try to disable your antivirus or internet security temporarily while you send your message with Windows Live Mail.

If this doesn’t work, uninstall and reinstall Windows Live Mail. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install. Once installed, start Revo then select Windows Live Mail among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click to restart later.

When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, exit Revo then restart the computer. After booting, install Windows Live Mail back.
