An error (-5006: 0x8000fffff) has occurred while running the setup

Hello everyone!

Whenever I tried to set up the following HP product, the set up process gets halted in almost in the middle of the total process and showed the following ERROR message

An error (-5006: 0x8000fffff) has occurred while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications.

If the error still occurs please contact your vendor: Hewlett-Packard.

Hi Joby!

Here are my suggestions on what you can do. You can do a combination of these actions.

1. Restart you computer and install the program again.
2. If you downloaded the file, download a new one, it is possible that you have downloaded an incompatible version or a corrupt file.
3. Right-click on the installer and click Run as administrator.
4. If you are using a CD, check for scratches. It is possible that the disc you have is damaged.

Hi Joby,

       This error is caused by a registry error, what you can do to resolve this issue, it may sound bizarre but try to run the application and then choose remove to completely remove the files from the previous copy  and then run the set up again. This error is caused that there was still a part of the previous copy of the software still sitting in the computer. If all else fails try to update the windows installer on the computer make sure you install the windows installer 4.5. You also need to look for the program file folder of the software make sure you set your windows explorer to show hidden files and folders, once you found the folder of the software rename it and add _OLD at the end of the folder name. You can now go and try to install the software again.
