Error 1297 – Audio service problem in Windows 8 Developer Preview

After the installation of Windows 8 Developer Preview, there is only 1 problem coming. All other features are working properly. The problem is that there is no voice. It gives a message in the taskbar through an icon and it says that ‘Audio device cannot run’. When I have tried through services.msc it returns with error. If anybody knows this problem, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

When installing Windows 8 it clearly states that you can not uninstall/revert back to your previous operating system without a new clean install of the old operating system.

So in short; Yes, you will need the OS discs.

try this

first, run as administrator.
second, run command: "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%infdefltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"

good luck 🙂

I had the same problem with the developer and the consumer preview. The solution works for restoring the audio. As an unfortunate side effect all but one account disappeared. How to modify the solution so that the accounts stay intact?
