Does VPS serve the same purpose as physical servers?

A VPS or a Virtual Private Server is also called VDS or Virtual Dedicated Server. It is a virtual server that appears as a dedicated server to the user but is in fact, installed on a computer that serves multiple or numerous websites. One computer can have numerous virtual private servers where every one has its own operating system that operates the hosting software for a specific user.

For every virtual private server, the hosting software consist of a web server program, mail server program, an FTP or File Transfer Protocol application, and specialized programs for activities like blogging and e-commerce. One more helpful feature of VPS technology is the capacity of a single subscriber to keep or sustain multiple virtual servers.

For example, a website owner may use one server for the production-level website and the other is for a “dummy” website where you can test future updates, modifications, or new applications.
