Hi guys.  I just installed the spreadsheet assistant add-in for Excel for quick access to my workbook and directories.  Ever since I installed the add-in, Excel has been performing slowly and randomly crashes.  What could be the problem?  I have Microsoft Excel 2007 on a Windows XP system.

Hi Dorothy Gallardo,

Good day! Yes, the office assistants are slowing down computers if its used but if you are using it wisely (asking questions to him or always getting his tips), do not take it off for your own sake. But generally, those assistants will slow down your computer.

Hi Dorothy,

I could determine that your installed add-in is the main reason that your Excel application crashes but there are other determining factor that you might consider.

  • Make sure that you have enough memory or RAM to compensate multiple programs running at one instance. If you opened more than two programs at one time, the performance of your machine will be affected.
  • Your computer files has been contaminated with malicious files are also known as virus.
  • The version currently installed in your computer doesn't compensate with its system requirement. Have you checked your RAM, disk space and drivers?

To resolve your dilemma, you may do the following steps:

  • Allow your computer be updated as it should be. Running your computer with complete set of hardware and updated drivers will boost performance.
  • As much as possible, install the latest version or patch into your computer.

Hope these will aid you in your dilemma.
