I use MDI  file format because it take up less disk space than other formats. But I cannot open MDI files in office 2010. Do I need some specific plugins or there is the easiest way?

The easiest way to resolve this issue would be:

Install the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, Run, then type appwiz.cpl, then click OK.
  2. From the currently installed program option, click the Office version that you have installed.
  3. Click Change.
  4. Click Add or Remove features, and then click Continue.
  5. Expand Office Tools.
  6. Click Microsoft Office Document Imaging then click Run all from My Computer.
  7. Click Continue.

You can use share point designer 2007 as a free download from the Microsoft download center.  You can download it from

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/?displaylang=en

After downloading select customize as the installation option.

On the installation options tab, select  NOT AVAILABLE for these three sections:

  1. Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer
  2. Office Shared Features
  3. Office Tools

Then expand office tools.

Select Microsoft Office Document Imaging as well as select Run all From My Computer option.
