These are the following specification/software on my computer: AMD X2 Dual core processor 6000+, 3.01 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP Service Pack 2 and HDD 640 GB SATA.

With these specifications I’m expecting an excellent computer performance. But unfortunately, it was not. I have some difficulties using flash application like movies on the internet. It actually hangs for a second every time the CPU reaches almost 100% usage. It will progress a little bit, like 5 seconds, but it hangs again. Please give an advice on how to fix this problem. Could anyone tell me, what is the problem of my computer right now?  It is the hardware? Or do you think I’ve been attack by a computer virus? What am I suppose to do?

Hi John

It is possible that a virus is causing this, however most virus will not do so as they want to be discrete as possible. If they show such symptoms it might give them away so it's a better idea to stay stealthy. These may not apply to all virus so do a thorough scan of your computer.

The more probable explanation is that your CPU is overheating. This temporarily reduces its maximum speed, therefore the CPU usage increases. Monitor your CPU temperature by using software that came with your motherboard or download a freeware from the Internet.

It could also be a bug in the browser plugin which makes a process run infinite times. Reinstall the plugin or use another browser and see whether it is solved.
