Hi,

Why is it that my computer boots every now and then without beeping? The main power light keeps on lighting even when I have disconnected the computer from the main power source.

Thanks

Hello Halton,

Based on what you have mentioned, it seems to me that your computer goes into Sleep mode or Hibernate. It may appear to be shutting down with no activity but you will still see that the power light is on. That is also the reason why you do not hear any beeps. It is possible that the Power Options is set to Sleep mode/Hibernate. In this case, your computer will always try to save power whenever there's no activity, even for a very brief time.

It will be helpful if you could tell us the make and model of your computer. Also, indicate the Operating System that you are using. However, if indeed, you are only experiencing a Sleep mode/Hibernate issue, then you need not worry. You may follow the steps below to fix it right away.

1. Go to Start > Control Panel> System and Security> Power Options

2. Locate "Select a Power Plan" and click "Change Plan Settings".

3. On "Change Settings for the Plan", click on "Changed Advanced Power Settings".

4. Go to the "Advanced Settings Tab" and double-click "Sleep". Make sure to double-click "Sleep After" so that you can get to the option where you could change the "Setting" to "Never".

5. Also, double-click on "Hibernate After" and select "Setting". Make sure to also change it to "Never".

6. Finally, you can click "OK" and then click "Save Changes".

That should resolve your problem. Let us know if you have other questions in mind.

Hi Roy,

This is a kind of wired problem. I hope that after disconnecting the power source your computer would not light up more than a minute. Actually the main power light keeps lighting after disconnect the power source because of the capacitors. Did you checked your beeping speaker which is usually build-in into your computer’s motherboard. You can check that by doing any un-permitted button press. You can do this from control panel.

Now if the beeping speaker is OK than your computer usually do not shut down. So disconnect every part of your computer and again connect them to respective places. Also do the same to your CMOS battery. Now again reboot. If it does not work than you have to install a new copy of windows.

Thank you,

Riley Weaver.
