Click Wheel not responding on iPod Nano

Hi,

I tried fixing my friend’s iPod Nano that does not turn on unless it is plugged in. I realized the problem was that the click wheel doesn't respond to any button presses.

So, after a minute the screen goes black due to inactivity. I tried a forced reset by pressing the buttons/click wheel in every possible combination but I still get no response. I plugged the device into the pc and did a restore through iTunes but the click wheel is still dead.

I'm willing to open the device and test the inside hardware if that's necessary. I am not experienced doing that aside from replacing a few broken screens and dead batteries on iPhone 3G devices.

Any insight or advice is appreciated.

Hi

I will help you to make your iPods wheel work. Apple iPods Nano is a very sophisticated device and it should only be repaired by professionals. If you do not know anything about iPods repairing, as you are saying, I will advise that, do not try to fix it yourself. Take it to your nearest Apple Care Store, so that they can check it thoroughly. If they cannot repair it, they will replace it. It will be safe.

Hi Isabellartd,

Your iPod Nano does not turn on unless it is plugged in and that the button or the click wheel is not working is a sign of a hardware problem. The capacity of any device will last long depending on the usage. You may have used the button a lot of times that it tend to wear out. It is better that you replace the battery and the button if you wish to do it yourself but please be reminded that fixing this on your own is taking the risk that you may not be aware of the compatibility of the physical hardware to the function of the iPod.

Hope this helps.
