Hello,

How do I enable Java Web Start for ASDM Launcher (Cisco ASA management) in Mountain Lion? Can anyone help me please with this error ? I tried to make this install manually and I couldn’t make it because I had some error during the install of Java Runtime Environment.

Thank you !

To open “ASDM on 10.1.10.1”, you need to download the Java Runtime Environment for Web Start applications.

Click “More Info…..” to visit the website for the Java Runtime Environment.

Cisco asdm error with java runtime environment

The Java Web Start application lets you download and run Java programs from the web. This application is already included in the Java Runtime Environment since version 5.0 was released. This means, when you install JRE or Java Runtime Environment on your computer, Java Web Start is also installed automatically. When you first download a Java application that uses Java Web Start technology, the Java Web Start software is started automatically.

You don’t specifically need to download Java Runtime Environment for Web Start applications because, in the first place, there is literally no such program. You only need to download and install JRE to install the Java Web Start application. If you get this error on your computer then that means no Java Runtime Environment is installed on your machine.

You shouldn’t get this if you happen to have any version of JRE installed. To fix this, simply download and install Java SE Runtime Environment 7u67. Since you need this on Mac OS X, make sure you are using 64-bit because it requires 64-bit Mac OS X.
