Can I keep my USB plugged in?

I use a USB frequently but my laptop often tells me there is an error and I should eject it. I'm afraid I will take it out and leave it somewhere, so I just leave it plugged in. Am I able to do this or am I causing harm by leaving it plugged in? Thanks.

Can I keep my USB plugged in?

Actually, keeping a USB plugged in for a long time duration is not an issue. Yet the fact that there is something wrong with the USB port that causes to display an error message means it needs a repair or a replace. So, it is advisable to contact for technical assistance. 

However, in the mean time, you can simply connect the USB device through another USB port to verify the fact whether the error is within the device or there is a bad USB.
