Bluetooth is neither visible, nor working!

I am using a Sony VAIO VGN NW 11S with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 installed in it. I am unable to edit the visibility settings of it since I cannot find the options menu in it even though I have the Bluetooth software correctly installed.

I can see the icon in the taskbar but it can neither detect nor can be detected by other devices such as cell phones.

Please someone help me to sort out this problem.

Hi Silvalillian,

Have you checked with your Device Manager if there is a Bluetooth adapter installed?

You may the software installed but the drivers for the Bluetooth adapter also need to be present and correctly installed.

You need to right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Look for Network Adapters and find the Bluetooth Adapter.

Make sure that it does not have any red x or yellow question mark on it. Also make sure that it is enabled.

Once it is enabled, try to switch your Bluetooth application by pressing the function key which displays Bluetooth on it.

You can then see if it will turn on or off.

Hi there,

I guess you are having trouble with Bluetooth in your VAIO Laptop.

1. Go to the tray and you can see the Bluetooth icon.

2. Right click on it and select open settings, You can see a box appears.

3. In that make sure you have ticked the checkbox "allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer". 

4. Click apply and then OK.

5. Now you are done, Now try connecting a device with your VAIO Laptop.

This is not the hardware problem, just a mess with settings. Do my above steps correctly and then you are done with it.

Hope you understood and clear what I said and your issue is solved.

Oh, I was really annoyed since I can't detect or be detected by another device.
