My blackberry screen doesn't respond at all when I scroll up or down.

This is a huge problem.

What is wrong with it, and can I fix it easily?

First, you have to install the latest version of your device software in your computer. You can easily download this free from http://www.blackberry.com. Go to “Apps & Software”, and then choose the latest version applicable to your Blackberry phone model.

Once the latest device software has been installed, you may start with the steps below. Remember, the device software has to be in your computer first or this will not work.

IMPORTANT: This process may take up to 20 minutes and it is a must that your Blackberry stays connected to the PC the whole time. It will only be safe to disconnect the phone once your home screen is already displayed at the end of the process.

1. Connect your Blackberry to your PC with a USB cable.

2. If you already have the Blackberry Desktop Software installed in your computer, it should automatically detect your phone. The desktop software will normally ask for you to upgrade your device software to the latest version if you have not done so yet. Cancel this request.

3. From My Computer, go to Program Files > Common Files > Research in Motion > App Loader

4. From the list of files, look for the application labeled “Loader” and double-click it.

5. The application loader wizard will launch. Click Next.

6. You will be taken to the Communication Port Selection. Ensure that the “USB-PIN: <your pin>” or “USB-PIN: UNKNOWN” is displayed.

7. Click Next and it may take a moment for the device to be connected.

8. The Application Selection screen should be displayed and there will be a list of applications. When you proceed, all items that are checked will be installed if they are not already in your phone. It is best to choose the applications you want on your Blackberry and uncheck those you do not want at this point.

Device Application Selection

9. Click Next.

10. Click on the “Advanced” button.

11. Make sure that the “Delete all currently installed applications” and “Delete all application data” are NOT checked.

12. Click Next.

13. The Application Loader Wizard may ask to automatically backup and restore data, select “Do not automatically backup and restore”

14. Click Next, then Finish

15. The phone should start up at this point. Do not worry if it stays on the hourglass screen for some time, up until maybe a good 10 minutes.

16. As soon as you see your home screen, you may disconnect your device from your computer.

17. You may have to turn your connection back on by going to Manage Connection and selecting Mobile Network.

Hope this helps.

If you are having problems with your BlackBerry Smartphone, try factory resetting it. You can do this with the BlackBerry Desktop Software. The BlackBerry software is in two versions: the BlackBerry Desktop Software and the BlackBerry Link. If you have a BlackBerry Smartphone that runs on BlackBerry 7.1 OS or earlier, you need to download the BlackBerry Desktop Software. It supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Windows 8.x and Windows 10 are not supported. For Mac users, you can download the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac. If your BlackBerry Smartphone runs on BlackBerry 10 OS, you need to download the BlackBerry Link. It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. Windows 10 is not supported.

It requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 so make sure to install it first before installing BlackBerry Link. Now, to reset your device, start the BlackBerry Desktop Software then on the top right corner of the screen, click the “?” icon. Next, go to “Support Resources” then “Support Tools”. Under “Reset to Factory Settings”, click “Reset”.
