Auto updates off. Error number 0x80070424

Hi all,

My security center on Windows XP show that automatic updates are off and won't switch on but when I view through system settings it is displayed as on.
I have been through the MS site and Mr. Fixit and performed all of their suggestions to no avail.
My antivirus software is switched off,so it can´t be that.
This all seems to have started when I was alerted to a possible Trojan on my system.  I followed all the safety precautions and the problem was dealt with, or so I thought!

I am new to this forum so sorry if unclear I hope one of you good people can help me.

Auto updates off. Error number 0x80070424

Launch your command prompt and type the following command:

chkdsk /f /r

And then press the Enter key. It will let your computer to schedule check disk on your next restart. Select Yes and it will reboot your computer and launch the program. It will scan your computer and fix any broken or damaged sectors on your hard disk drive and remove it.

If this doesn't work, post the error messages that you will encounter on the Event Viewer about updates. Just click on Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Event Viewer to launch the program. Go to the System section.

Hello,

Here you can try this option. I Think, this problem arises because of modification of windows privacy policy. You just need to repair windows to fix up errors, explorer errors, ActiveX errors, JavaScript errors etc.

You can use variety of applications like

1. Tune up utilities

2. Advance system care.

3. PL Cleaner Pro. (My Recommendation)

Install that program and lunch that application.

Register it if required.

Update the windows component.

Now you have to reimage the machine.

Fix windows by windows repair toolkit.

It will repair full database by replacement.
