Apple is still signing 5.0

Hi,

I’m using iOS 5.0.1 and am trying to find out if Apple is still signing 5.0. If Apple is not doing this anyone, is it possible to downgrade? I am currently following the RedmondPie downgrading guide. As instructed in the Guide, I have added "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" to the host file, continued on to enter Pwned DFU with redsn0w and headed to iTunes to Alt-Click Restore.

This is where I have hit a problem. After I clicked Alt-Click Restore I received a message box saying “Extracting Software” followed by a second message saying Verifying iPhone Restore with Apple", but then a received the error message shown below.

The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device

isn't eligible for the requested build.

Does anyone know how I can fix this error so that I continue with the downgrade?

Hi,

Please do the following to fix the problem:

Search internet and download firmware. Save it to your desktop as you can locate it easily.

Open your iTunes and hold the CTRL button so that a window opens.

Select your firmware, try to restore and wait for the error message. When it comes, click OK.

Now keep the device in DFU Mode. Hold both Power and Home buttons until your screen goes black. Hold both the buttons for more 3 seconds. iTunes will play around and say something. Listen carefuly. If it says it has detected a device in recovery mode, fine.

Now everything is absolutely fine.

Thanks for asking.

Hathy
