Why does Google's Android platform received negative comments despite the fact that it is gaining popularity in the market?

The Trend Micro compared 4 popular mobile operating systems for security features and Android came out on last position.
The main reason is that Android version 2.3 was compared to the latest versions of other mobile platforms (iOS 5, Windows Phone 7.5, Blackberry 7). Trend Micro accepted that there are newer versions of android in market. However, the most widely deployed version is 2.3, which is why this version was included in the comparison.
This rating doesn't mean that android is bad or people do not like it. Common users are not that much concerned about security as the corporate users are.
Android is indeed the most rapidly growing platform right now, and is very popular. They have significantly improved the security in newer versions of android.
