I am using HP Pavilion A6040 computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. My hard disk is a 200 GB Single SATA and the BIOS SATA is set to RAID.  I want to know if I can alter it to AHCI without having issues.  I need suggestions. Thanks.

Alter SATA to AHCI without causing issues

It is not easily possible to alter configuration of your SATA Hard Disk to native AHCI. In fact, when you have RAID configuration set, you also have AHCI enabled on hardware level. RAID is type of configuration while AHCI is a hardware SATA controller. .

If you  enable AHCI in BIOS settings with OS installed with RAID, it is more likely that OS won't boot. This is because system will not find path to boot drive due to no specification of RAID configuration. If you must revert to AHCI, you need to do a clean OS installation after enabling AHCI.

I would recommend you to continue using RAID since it provides increased performance.
