Advice on buying a laptop

I'd like to get my 12 year old a notebook just for school work.  Basically, it will be for writing book reports and research.  I don't want to go overboard on the budget, but I need to know that I am not getting anything too prehistoric/slow. What do you suggest in terms of specs and brand?

Hy Garry Silva,

Actually 12 hours ago technology was so slow and backdated. So I won’t surprise if any notebook which ages is 12 years that shows usually various type of error and hang out for every program loading. You should use latest processor for boost your notebook, laptop speed. You should have minimum 1 GB memory RAM too for make your PC’s faster than before.

Actually good pc depends on Hard Drive, Motherboard, RAM, Processor’s good quality. You should keep updating your PC by use latest version of this hardware.

You should increase your budget must for get a nice PC.
