Hi,

I cannot open a catalog in Lightroom because it seems like it is used by another Lightroom. I have checked this and the error lies. Does anyone have any idea about this error ? Why I cannot open the specific catalog ?

Thank you !

Light room cannot use the catalog named “STOCK_library-2-2” because it is not writable and cannot be opened. This could be caused by incorrect permission or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog. You may try to correct the problem or you may select a different catalog.

If there seems to be a problem regarding permissions, you should try reinstalling the application to possibly fix any issues with the program’s permissions. Also make sure your operating system is supported. If you are using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.6, you should be using Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, or 10.9 Mavericks.

To reinstall Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, go to the Finder and navigate to the Applications directory. Drag the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom application to the trash. After that, delete the preferences file, catalog file and other Adobe Photoshop Lightroom files in the following locations:

  • /Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist – the preferences file.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat – catalog file.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata – preview cache file.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 5 Catalog Smart Previews.lrdata – smart preview cache file.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat.lock – catalog lock file. This lock file prevents the catalog from getting overwritten when it is in use.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat-journal – catalog journal file. This journal file is used by opened catalogs for checking incomplete database records.
  • /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/Backups/[date and time of backup]/Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat – catalog backup.
  • /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/[preset or template folder]/[preset or template filename.lrtemplate] – presets and templates.
  • /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Lightroom 5.0 Registration – serial number.

If the file you want to delete is located inside the user library folder, the file is hidden by default. To have a temporary access, press Option then select Go and then Library in the Finder. Once all files are deleted, install Adobe Photoshop Lightroom back then see if it works. You can also install the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.6 Patch.
